REPUDIATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL COMMISSION OF JURISTS AND THE BAR COUNCIL FOR STATEMENTS CONCERNING THE CONVICTION OF ANWAR IBRAHIM PURSUANT TO SECTION 377B OF THE MALAYSIAN PENAL CODE

WE make reference to the Press Release of the President of the Malaysian Bar, Christopher Leong of the Bar Council on 11 February 2015 as well as the Press Release of the International Commission of Jurists on 10 February 2015 both of which concern the affirmation by the Federal Court of Malaysia on 10 February of the Court of Appeal decision on 8 March 2014 to convict Anwar Ibrahim of sodomy pursuant to Section 377B of the Penal Code of Malaysia.

Press Release | SUHAKAM urges Human Rights Compliance: Surrender or Enrichment?

On 27th December 2013, the Malaysian Bar issued a statement in support of the call by the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (“SUHAKAM”), and its Chairman, Tan Sri Hasmy Agam, for Malaysia to look seriously into accelerating the pace of ratification of the six remaining core United Nations instruments on human rights.
