Best-selling sociologist Ivan Illich wrote a short classic on energy problems fifty years ago, where he analyzed and proposed what he called “Energy and Equity”. By this he hoped that the earth’s energy resources would be distributed evenly and fairly among all of civilization. Barring long-sought breakthroughs in the engineering of nuclear fusion power (promising unlimited energy for everyone), this dream has not come close to being fulfilled. Penilaian Malaysia di “Universal Periodic Review” 2013

Nota Awal Pertubuhan-pertubuhan Islam Bukan Kerajaan (“NGI”) kepada Sesi Konsultansi Bersama Masyarakat Madani Mengenai Penilaian Kedua Malaysia di bawah Proses Universal Periodic Review, Majlis Hak Asasi Manusia, Pertubuhan Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu 28 Disember 2012

1.  Ini adalah kali pertama pertubuhan-pertubuhan Islam Bukan Kerajaan (“NGI”) secara rasmi dijemput untuk menyertai proses konsultansi bagi penyediaan laporan kebangsaan Malaysia ke “Universal Periodic Review”, Majlis Hak Asasi Manusia Pertubuhan Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu (PBB). Sudah tentu di dalam waktu yang sangat terhad, pihak NGI belum dapat menyelidiki secara mendalam isu-isu yang telah dibangkitkan serta syor-syor yang timbul susulan proses UPR kali pertama Malaysia pada tahun 2009. A Clear and Present Danger

Human Rights Watch‘s Asia division deputy director, Phil Robertson, in a recent statement entitled ‘AG Should Not Appeal‘, said that “the end of the trial allowed a way out for the government to bow out gracefully. The trial court gave the government a chance to bow out gracefully from Anwar’s politically motivated prosecution.  It’s very unfortunate that they didn’t take it.” Continue reading
