SUHAKAM & The Bar Council must investigate possible human rights violations at Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu Rally

We, the Centre for Human Research and Advocacy (CENTHRA) and Young Professionals (YP) note with concern media reports that the Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu rally or otherwise known as the #Merah169 rally that was initially reported as being approved and allowed to go ahead by the relevant authorities, are now being disrupted by the same.

Press Release | SUHAKAM urges Human Rights Compliance: Surrender or Enrichment?

On 27th December 2013, the Malaysian Bar issued a statement in support of the call by the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (“SUHAKAM”), and its Chairman, Tan Sri Hasmy Agam, for Malaysia to look seriously into accelerating the pace of ratification of the six remaining core United Nations instruments on human rights. KUALA LUMPUR 12 Ogos – Pengerusi DAP, Karpal Singh dicabar membuktikan perkataan ‘sekular’ yang dilaung-laungkan selama ini adalah termaktub di dalam Perlembagaan Persekutuan. Pengerusi Pertubuhan-Pertubuhan Pembela Islam (PEMBELA), Aminuddin Yahaya berkata, pihaknya kesal apabila pemimpin DAP itu berulang kali mengatakan Malaysia adalah negara sekular sedangkan Perlembagaan telah menetapkan Islam adalah ‘Agama Negara’.
